James Carter, a junior at Iowa, won the men's triple jump with a fifth-round effort of 51-9.75 (15.79m) at the 112th Drake Relays Presented by Xtream and Powered by Mediacom and Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Carter became the first Iowa men's triple jumper to win at Drake Relays since 2012. He also became the first male athlete to sweep both the long jump and triple jump in the same year since 2006.
